Frequently asked questions
What is a tamu?
A tamu is a traditional open-air market in Sabah, usually held on set days of the week, where traders set up stalls in the open or on the pavement to sell produce, food and handicrafts.
Is every tamu in Sabah listed?
No. We only list a tamu once we have a public source for it, and coverage is still growing. If a tamu is missing, it may simply not be verified yet.
Why do some listings say the sources disagree?
Published market days do not always match — for example, one source may give Wednesday and another Wednesday and Sunday. Rather than pick one, the listing shows what each source says, so you can decide whether to check locally.
How accurate are the map pins?
Pins appear only where OpenStreetMap has the market itself mapped. Listings without a verified position are left off the map, and their directions button opens a map search instead.
Can I buy food on Tamu Borneo?
No. Tamu Borneo is a guide, not a shop. It does not sell, take orders or deliver. Food is sold by traders at the tamu themselves.
Does the site use my location?
Only if you press “Near me” in the Tamu Finder. Your browser then asks for permission, and the location is used on the page to sort results. It is not sent to us or stored.
How do I suggest a correction or a new tamu?
Use the “Suggest an update” page. A link to a notice, news report or official page helps us confirm it quickly.
