About Tamu Borneo

A guide to the tamu of Sabah and the traditional food you can find there — starting with Sabah, with room to grow across Borneo.

Four questions behind every page

How listings are verified

The same six rules apply to every listing.

  • Every tamu, market day, opening time, food link and visitor note cites a named public source, linked on the listing.
  • Sources are ranked: Sabah Tourism Board and government records first, then established news, then reference sites. Travel blogs are labelled and never used alone to confirm a food at a tamu.
  • Map pins are used only where OpenStreetMap has the market itself mapped. Town centres are never used as stand-ins.
  • When sources disagree, the listing says so and shows each claim rather than picking one silently.
  • Fields we could not verify are shown as unknown. Nothing is guessed or filled in from memory.
  • Each listing shows the date its sources were last checked.

Coverage so far

  • 52Markets to exploreListed with sources
  • 21Districts coveredAcross all five divisions
  • 12Mapped locationsPositions from OpenStreetMap
  • 15Traditional-food guidesEach with its sources

52 tamu across 21 districts, 12 of them with a verified map position, and 15 food guides. Many tamu in Sabah are not listed yet — usually because we have not found a reliable source for their day or location.

Not a shop

Tamu Borneo does not sell or deliver food. It points you to the tamu, where local traders sell their own produce.

Help us improve it

Know a tamu that is missing, a day that has changed, or a stall that sells something special? Tell us — ideally with a link or a photo of a notice — and we will look for a source we can cite.
